日本に来たきっかけと、フランス語講師になったきっかけ

フランス語を学ぶ生徒へアドバイス

Hello there!

After having taught English and French for the past three years in Tokyo, I would like to pursue this career in education.

Since I arrived in Tokyo, I realised how keen I was on teaching languages and adapting myself to my students' needs and personalities. I would like to give you some examples taken from my teaching experiences.

At the kindergarten (for Japanese children), the teachers were given great freedom when it came to managing the schedule. We quickly noticed that children learnt a lot out of drama. So, we decided to include a role-play dimension in every activity: be a grocery shopkeeper, the judge of a futon competition, the curator of a Totoro drawings exhibition, etc. Each time, the kids were thrilled and brilliantly remembered their lines and vocabulary from these quick dramas.

Another example is one of the courses I taught at the cultural centre, a public speaking course. My method was based on technique, improvisation games and cultural references. In the end, a Japanese student was able to deliver a 15-minute long speech in English on Japan’s international relations in front of an international audience (Japanese, English, French, Chinese).

You can count on my enthusiasm as a teacher.

As for my schedule, I am available from Monday to Saturday.

I look forward to hearing from you.

See you very soon,

Sebastien Barrere

Three "policies", mostly: adaptability, balance and patience.

In a foreign country especially, one must constantly put oneself in someone else's shoes. Due to different cultures, reactions and intellectual processes are obviously very different. So the first challenge is to find the best way to “communicate” with students. And for this, you need to adapt: cultural references, recent news, and a precise choice of words.

The second most important thing is to choose the right balance. Between fun and serious, between theory and practice. For every student, the balance is different.

And finally, patience: after a year of teaching at a kindergarten, it has now become one of my strongest teaching skills! With a kid, you know when a conversation starts, you don’t know when it finishes. So, in the end, my patience is grateful to you, children!

学歴・職歴・フランス語関連資格

As far as goes my teaching experience in Tokyo, I worked at a cultural centre in 2014, at a conversation school in 2015 and finally, at a kindergarten in 2016. Although I was born and raised in France, I am bilingual in English, thanks to my parents. My mother is half-American whereas my father lived, studied and worked in England for years. Also, I hold the Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE, Cambridge Exam, http://www.cambridgeenglish.org/exams/proficiency/).
