Greetings,
I'm Vladimir, a French software engineer and freelance writer, currently living in Tokyo to study Japanese at the Tokyo Galaxy Japanese Language School.
French is my native language, and I am fluent in English. Although I haven't had so many opportunities to teach, it has always been one of my favourite activities, even in an informal context ; and every time I could do it, I did with great pleasure, and, I believe, success, based on my audience response.
Learning languages is incredibly fun, and unfortunately schools over the world do not excel at making this activity as interesting as it should be. Like most private teachers, my goal is to make it as enjoyable as possible for both the students and myself. This is why I put a lot of emphasis on understanding my students, what they like and dislike, how their mind works, and then crafting the most suitable content to help them improve.
I'm also very curious, and having students who love things I do not know about is always a fantastic opportunity to learn something new.
I believe I can help you improve while having fun. So, let's have fun together !
As all students have different needs, various approaches are needed.
Generally speaking, I believe in crafting my own course material : depending on the specific points we want to address during the lesson, it is more comfortable for the teacher to prepare something fully appropriate rather than using generic texts. Besides, it is a good opportunity to get the student more involved, as we can build situations and content related to their hobbies, or simply topics they enjoy discussing.
Otherwise, "real" content can be extremely educational. Using songs, famous litterary texts (chilren stories for beginners, complex litterature for advanced students), or even TV shows/movie speeches are often effective.
I believe in flexibility, understanding the student's needs, and crafting lessons aimed at solving the difficulties they encounter.
I have created the chess club of my engineering school, and taught weekly lessons to 4 to 10 students, over the course of two years.
I also gave weekly science classes to hospitalized children during a year. It was challenging, as they were often incapacitated ; however, it was truly a delight to find ways for them to enjoy the lessons and learn new concepts while having fun.
I've occasionnally helped foreign students who were trying to study French and English, but not in a formal context.
As for my work experience, I've worked 2 years as a software engineer, in various companies. I'm also a freelance writer since November 2015, and I've been writing French content for Lolesports, official portal of the League of Legends (leading online game) esports scene, since 2017.
